Wales vol2.
Siin on kuidagi tavapäraseks tõsine nägu.
Reis algas lennu hilinemisega. Airbalticu jätkulend Riiast Londonisse. Istusime ja ootasime uut infot. Õnneks-õnneks-õnneks piirdus see "ainult" pooleteise tunniga. See oli esimene kogemus Airbalticuga reisida, põnevused algasid juba pileteid ostes ;)

Avebury |
Gatwickist otsisime üles Avise kontori ja sõiduks anti meile lõbus Suzuki Swift, mille raadio mängis üle päeva ja tagumiste uste avamiseks sai korralikku lihasjõudu rakendada.
Esimeseks peatuseks Suurbritannia suurim kiviring -
Avebury kiviring, mis ümbritseb samanimelist küla. £7 parkimiseks. Kivid püstitati 2850-2200eKr. Erinevalt Stonehengest saab Avebury kivide vahel vabalt jalutada.

The Red Lion, päevasupp |
Osa on inimtegevuse käigus hävitatud aga suuresti tänu Alexander Keiller`ile, kes omandas seal suurel hulgal maad, tähistati 1930ndatel eemaldaud kivide asukohad. Kokku on tegemist kolme kiviringiga.
Lõunasöögiks valisin Aveburys asuva
The Red Lion`i, päevasupp ja mõnus soolase võiga sai.

Castle Combe |
Meie esimene tutvus inglise maalilise piirkonna
Cotswoldsiga oli selle lõunaossa jääv
Castle Combe oma kollasest juuraajastu lubjakivist majade, 14. sajandist pärist tururisti ja viimase rahvastikuloenduse järgi 344 elanikuga.

Cardiffi kindlus |
Seejärel ületasime Walesi printsi silla, maksime ära tollimaksu (
£5.60) ja jõudsime lõpuks Walesi suurimasse linna - 1955. aastast Walesi pealinn
Cardiffisse. Cardiff oli 19. sajandi alguseni väikelinn, mis sai linnaõigused 1905. aastal. Meie esimeseks majutuseks oli suurepärase asukoha ja huvitavalt kitsa parklaga
Beverly Hotel (Innkeepers Lodge).

Wales
vol2. This time, as during previous trips, I rented a car and composed my own route. We drove 1914 miles I walked about 105miles. 9 days all together. I travelled with my friend Aili who decided to travel with me after we had visited Barcelona together.
Some already read from Facebook that the first thing I noticed after returning was the lack of smiling. I don`t know why I haven`t noticed that before. I went walking each morning. Everyone who I met, said "Hello/Morning". And not only that, they also (mostly) smiled. It is a norm to have a serious face here. People who were running, panting, having red cheeks, seemingly tired noticed me, a stranger, and it seemed so natural to say Hi. Not to mention people walking (their dogs), customer assistants, people walking up a hill, who ever. Naturally I nor them walked around greeting everyone during the entire day but definitely in the mornings or whenever we saw someone on a hike. Whereas in Riga airport the lady who checked our ID cards had a perfect RBF (resting-bitch-face).
Our trip begun with a delay. Airbaltic`s transfer flight from Riga to London. So we waited and waited for new information. Fortunately it took "only" an hour and a half. This was my first experience flying with Airbaltic where the excitement began with buying the tickets ;)
We located Avis office in Gatwick and we got a fun Suzuki Swift that had a radio that played every other day and required serious strength if trying to open the back doors.

Avebury |
Our first destination was Great Britain`s biggest stone circle -
Avebury henge and stone circle, encircling an area that includes part of Avebury village. £7 parking fee. The stones date back to Neolithic period roughly between 2850-2200BC. Unlike Stonehenge you can actually walk among the stones. A part of the stones have been removed during different times.
|
Avebury |
But thanks to an archaeologist Alexander Keiller who acquired the site a lot was remained and saved.
|
The Red Lion, soup of the day |
We ate lunch in
The Red Lion in Avebury - a soup of the day and their delicious salty butter.
|
Castle Combe |
Our first acquaintance with the picturesque
Cotswolds was
Castle Combe
in South of Cotswolds. Castle Combe as most Cotswold villages we visited during the last days of our trip are built from Cotswold stone - yellow oolitic Jurassic limestone.
|
Castle Combe, Market Cross |
There is a 14th century Market Cross in the middle of the tiny village (344 people).
Then we crossed The Severn, paid the toll (
£5.60) and reached the biggest cuty in Wales - its capital Cardiff.
|
Cardiff Castle |
Our first accommodation was
Beverly Hotel
(Innkeepers Lodge) with its wondeful location and narrow car park. In the evening I had arranged to finally meet some of my Welsh relatives but we still had a little time so we took a short walk in Bude Park and saw the Cardiff Castle.
We had dinner in
Elgano Italian Restaurant in our street and spent wondeful time with my dear relatives💗
