16. juuli. Hommikuks jälle inglise hommikusöök. Hash brown, munad ja oad. Ja loomulikult röstsai apelsini marmelaadiga :) Ostsin esimeselt reisilt marmelaadi kaasa ja loomulikult müüakse seda Eestis ka aga reisidel tundub see kuidagi erilisem :D

Esimesena oli plaanis külastada St Ann`s Chapelit. No nime pärast ikka. Üks väike küla Tavistockist paari minutilise sõidu kaugusel.

Järgmine suund - väike küla nimega Minions Bodmin Moori idaosas. Kahjuks sellest toredast sildist pilti ei teinudki pidades silmas just toredaid kollaseid tegelasi, kes filmidest, FBst ja kust veel vastu vaatavad ning meelt lahutavad. Minionsi lääneossa jäävad Hurlersi kiviringid. Paar sammu jalutamist (English Heritage annab vahemaaks parklast veerand miili) üle nõmme ja kolm ringi kerkisidki vaateulatusse. Kivide suurust ei anna Stonehengega võrrelda kuid päritolult on need hilisest kiviajast või varasest pronksiajast ja kodulehe andmetel Inglismaal unikaalsed, koosnedes kolmest järjestikku asetsevast ringist. Tegime väikese jalutuskäigu nõmmel kesk lambaid.

Trethevy Quoit

Trethevy Quoit

Jätkus juba omaseks saanud hekkidega ääristatud tee 2.7 miili kaugusel asuva Trethevy Quoit rahnkalme poole. Kalme juures oli väike parkimiskoht neljale autole, meile oli täpselt koht jäetud. Kalme juures oli isegi infotahvel erinevalt The Hurlersist. Trehtevy Quoit on pärit (huvi korral link ajaloost) hilisest kiviajast (u 3500-2500 e.m.a.), pealmine kivi kaalub umbes 20 tonni. 20 tonni.. Inimesed on läbi ajaloo lihtsalt hämmastavate tegudega hakkama saanud. Kalme ise on 2.7 meetri kõrgune ja üllatavalt tasuta vaatamiseks. Selles suhtes oli Cornwallis kiviringide ka kalmetega hästi, et kuigi neid hooldab English Heritage siis külastamise eest (veel) raha ei küsita. Trethevy Quoit`ist kõige rohkem 30 meetri kaugusel oli kellegi maja, kalme ise kohe tee ääres.

Vahepeal mõõtsime ära tee laiuse võrreldes autoga ^_^ Meie usin ja selle tripi puhul võib öelda väga ökonoomne Hyndai.

Söögipausi tegime St Austellis, üks tore linnake, mis jäi teepeale. Vahelduseks pasta bolognese ja korni jäätis. Järgmine täiendus raamatuvarudele. Leidsin Inglise Südame Sihtasutuse poe, tegemist on heategevusliku poega, mis kogub raha veresoonkonna uuringute tegemiseks. Ja müüb sealhulgas raamatuid :)

Eelmisel Cornwalli reisil vaatasime üle Eden projekti. Ilmatu suured kuplid, mis peitsid endas erinevaid taimi. Sinna teist korda ei kutsunud aga lähedal asus veel huvitav aiaprojekt - Heligani kadunud aiad ning need veel külastamata. Heligani ajaloo kohta jälle võimalik lugeda lingilt. Kompleks on hästi renoveeritud, koosnedes eriteemalistest aedaest - lilledest maitsetaimedeni, dzunglist metsaaluse jalutuskäiguni, sekka mõned loomad. Ülemistel piltidel  olevaid kujusid on näha vist kõigil lehtedel, mis Heligani tutvustavad. Linnainimestele on antud võimalus looduses käia. Jalutuskäik tuli päris pikk ning päris kõike läbi ei käinudki aga mulle meeldis.

Doktor Martini juurde alles jõuame. Üks linn, mis sellest sarjast mõnikord läbi käib on Truro. See jäi väga mugavalt teele sõidul selle õhtusesse majutuskohta Penzances. Truros on samuti nagu Exeteris ilus (kuigi natuke väiksem) gooti katedraal. Kuid peatuse seal otsustasin teha hoopis teisel põhjusel. Truros on üks Hobbycrafti keti poodidest. Ma ei ole ühtegi nendest enne külastanud aga tean, et seal on suurepärane valik. Hobbycraft jäi linna serva ja sinna oleks tahtnud jäädagi. Oleks ainult kohver suurem, oleks ainult rahapuu.. Oleks, oleks, oleks.. Aga oh see pood. Küpsetamine - vahendid, maitseained, värvid, mida iganes oskaks mõelda; meisterdamine - lõiketerad, paberid; kunst - kõikvõimalikud värvimeediumid, paberid, joonistamis-, maalimise jne vahendid; käsitöö - lõngad, niidid, riided.. Ma ei ole Tallinna Karnaluksi jõudnud, seal pidi samuti tohutu valik olema, vist kõik peale küpsetamise. Võib-olla hea, et ei ole. Hiljem tegime väikese tiiru Truro kesklinnas ja suund Penzancesse.

Penzance on lääne-Inglismaa üks suuremaid linnu. Majutuseks oli YMCE Penzance Bakcpackers, selle reisi ainuke hostel. Tuba lihtne nagu sel juhul ikka: 2 voodit, laud ja kapp. Rand oli mõnusalt paariminutilise jalutuskäigu kaugusel.

July 16th. Our morning began with English breakfast again. Hash brown, fried eggs and beans. And of course toast with orange marmalade. First time I was in the UK, I bought the marmalade to take home and it is sold in Estonia too but making toast with marmalade at home is just not the same as while travelling :D

Our first thought was to locate St Ann`s Chapel. For the namesake of course. This is a tiny hamlet a few minutes drive from Tavistock.

Next destination - a small village called Minions on the eastern flank of Bodmin Moor. Unfortunately I didn`t photograph the village`s sign. Minions also being the yellow little fellows entertaining us from the big screen, FB and where else. West of the village of Minions are three stone circles - The Hurlers. A bit of walking from the parking lot (English Heritage says it is quarter of a mile) and the stones captivated our eyes. The Hurlers are a bit of a smaller scale than Stonehenge but they are dating back to late Neolithic or early Bronze Age, they consist of three beautiful circles and English Heritage informs are unique in the UK.

Our journey continued 2.7 miles on now the familiar narrow roads bordered with hedges and led us to Trethevy Quoit megalithic tomb. There is a little parking lot with four spaces quite near to the tomb, conveniently one space left for us. There is an informative sign near the tomb unlike the Hurlers. Trethevy Quoit dates (there is a link on its history if interested) back to the early or the middle part of the Neolithic period, around 3500-2500 BC. The huge capstone weighs about 20 tonnes. 20 tonnes.. People have achieved miraculous things throughout history. The tomb is about 2.7 metres high and surprisingly free to look at. Although English Heritage looks after the standing stones, tombs, stone circles in Conwall, most are free to visit.

In the meanwhile we measured the road`s width compared to our car ^_^ Our hard-working and based on this trip, extremely economic Hyndai.

We had our lunch break in St Austell, a nice little town on our road. Paste bolognese and Cornish ice cream. And I got to replenish my book supply. I found a charitable shop led by British Heart Foundation which among other things sells used books :)

Garden of Heligan

During my previous visit to Cornwall with Germalo we got the see Eden Project. Enormous domes hiding in them different kind of plants.This was one place I did not long to revisit. But near St Austell is another garden project - The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a place I had not yet visited. If interested the link also tells about the place`s history. The complex consists of different kind of gardens - from flowers to herbs, jungle to forest, along with a few animals. The figures on the top pictures are perhaps demostrated in every commercial advertising Heligan. People living in cities have an opportunity to see the country life. Our walk turned out quite long considering we didn`t manage to see everything but I really liked being there.

It will take time until we reach Doc Martin on our trip but one city they mention in the show is Truro which happened to be between St Austell and Penzance where was our next accommodation. There is a beautiful gothic chapel in Truro as is in Exeter (although not as big). But I chose to visit Truro for other reason. Hobbycraft has a shop in there. If only I had more room in my luggage. If only I had a money tree. If only. If only. If only. But this store. Baking - supplies, flavouring, colouring, anything I could think of; Scrapbooking - materials, cutting dies and so on; art - all sort of colour mediums, papers, supplies for drawing, painting; handicraft - yarns, sewing thread, cloth.. I have yet to visit Karnaluks in Tallinn, friends have told me it is also huge and has an enormous variety of handicraft supplies. Maybe it is a good thing I haven`t visited it.
After that we took a walk in Truro`s centre and headed to Penzance.

Penzance is one of the biggest towns in West of England. Our night was to be spent in YMCE Penzance Bakcpackers, the only hostel during this trip. Our room was simple with two beds, a table and a cupboard. No bible. The beach was only a couple of minutes walk away.
