13.08 Teist San Francisco päeva alustasin hommikuse jalutuskäiguga, suunaks Kaunite kunstide palee ja meie majutusest 3 km kaugusel asuv laineorel, kuhu jõudsin natuke enne päikesetõusu.
Kaunite kunstide palee ehitati 1915. ja taastati 1965. aastal. Ehitist käiakse vaatamas lihtsalt oma maalilise asukoha pärast aga samuti toimuvad seal näitused ning kontserdid ja see on üks kaunis koht pulmade pidamiseks.

Palee asub kunstliku tiigi ääres, kus suplesid millegipärast kilpkonnad. Kreekapärased kujud ronivad hoone katusele, esimest korda, kui kujusid selles asendis nägin. Hommikul, enne päikesetõusu, tehti juba trenni.

Kaunite kunstide palee

Laineoreli helisid tekitab lainetus nagu nimetusest järeldada võib. Orel asub muuli lõpus ning sellele  lähenedes ei ole mingit vihjet, et seal midagi erilist asuks. Helisid tekitab torude süsteem, üks osa vees, teine maa peal. Helid on kõige paremini kuulda tõusuga. Hommikul oli mõõna tipphetk ja pärast hommikusööki vanematega uuesti oreli juurde suundudes jätkus see ikka. Kui seal olla, võib ära vaadata aga oreli pärast kohale sõita ilmselt ei ole mõtet. Mõnusad istumiskohad ja vaade Sisco rannikule, roomapärane arhitektuur.

Auto sai jätta mugavalt ning tasuta oreli juurde suunduva muuli otsa. Käisime kõigepealt Kaunite kunstide paleed uudistamas ning suundusime siis muulile.

Edasi ootas ees sõit üle San Francisco ikoonilise sümboli, Kuldvärava silla, mida saab kauguselt imetleda erinevatest kohtadest linnas. Kuldvärava sild on näha ilmselt igas filmis, mille tegevus San Franciscos aset leiab. See on üks kuulsamaid ja pildistatumaid sildu maailmas ning oma ehitamise hetkel 1937. aastal oli see maailma pikim rippsild. Ühele poole jääb San Francsico laht ning teisele Vaikne ookean.

Sõitsime kõigepealt sillast üle ning suundusime sellest vasakule jäävale kaldale. Otsisin kodus loomulikult sobilikud parkimis- ning vaatekohad. Alustasime kõige kaugemalt, kust avastasin võimaluse väikese Hawk mäe otsa ronida. Loomulikult ei saanud ma jätta seda võimalust kasutamata.

Tegime veel mitu peatust, nautisime ilusat ilma ja linnale avanevaid vaateid.

Kui juba kohal, siis jalutasin silla alt läbi ning vaatasin selle teiselt kaldapoolelt ka üle.

Tagasisõit üle silla võttis tunduvalt kauem aega. Vetaranide maantee viis meid Richmondi linnaossa. Käisime poodides ning lõunat söömas.

Jin Pot toiduvalik

Seekord oli lõunasöök jaapani köögile orienteeritud Jin Pot`is elamus omaette. Menüüst saime valida eelroa, kaks puljongit (võtsime ühe teravama ning teise mahedama), proteiini (kana) ning kõrvalroad (seened, kapsas, jms). Keset lauda oli pliidiraud. Meile toodi suures aluses puljong, väikesed kausid ja lusikad. Selge, sõime supivedelikku. Siis toodi juurde karp tooreste juurviljade ja seentega. Ok. Siis toodi õhukesed kanafilee viilud. Toored. Ok? Olime nõutud, krõmpsutasime ettevaatlikult tooreid asju. Ettekandja sai õnneks aru, et meie jaoks uus kogemus ja käis vahepeal juhendamas. Selgus, et supp ei olnud omaette söömiseks, vaid sinna sisse tuli panna kõik, mis meile ette toodi ning endale ise süüa keeta. Polegi enne väljas söömas käies endale söögitegemise eest maksma pidanud😁
Geary tänav viis meid Fillmore linnaosas asuvasse Safeway parklasse, kust lühikese jalutuskäigu kaugusele jäävad Värvitud daamid, järjekordne ikooniline SF sümbol.

Ameerika arhitektuuris on värvitud daamid Victoria ja Edwardi ajastul ehitatud hooned, mis on 1960ndatel üle värvitud rohkem kui kolmes erinevas toonis. Terve see piirkond on lihtsalt võrratult kauneid hooneid täis. Kujutan ette, et inimesed kes seal elavad kahetsevad, et sellise imelise välimusega kodu valisid. Inimesed seisid või istusid, pidasid piknikku ning jälgisid maju. Ega meie tegime sama ja kui turistide hordid iga päev Su maja ees akendest sisse vaatavad ning maja pildistavad, siis see vist kõige mugavam ei ole. Charmed tuli meelde😊

Käisime ikka Safeway`s ka, see on järjekordne suur (toidu)pood. Ja sinna lähedale jäi Goodwill, heategevuslik pood, kust saab muu hulgas odavalt raamatuid😊

Seejärel viisime auto tagasi majutuse juurde ning kõndisime uuesti Fisherman`s Warfi piirkonda. Sain eelmisel päeval lahti kahest trammipiletist, mõtlesin ülejäänutega ka proovida. Seekord oli turvamees kohe kassa ees ja pakkus ka kellegi pileteid, järelikult see keelatud ei olnud. Võtsin oma neli piletit välja, juurde legend, et tulime eelmisel päeval jalgsi tagasi. Kokkuvõttes jäime ainult 1$ võrra  miinusess, kuna ümmardasin kolme pileti 21 20ks aga see oli nii tühine summa arvestades, et meil õnnestus kõigist kuuest piletist lahti saada.

Käisime veel poodides ning lõpetasime päeva õhtusöögiga Cioppino`s. Eks selles piirkonnas maksab juba asukoht. Meie reisi kõige kallim õhtusöök, mina sõin Cobb salati, ema krevetikokteili (imetilluke kokteil) ja isa mingi liha. Joogid ja tip juurde.

Jalutasime tagasi majutusse ning jätsin vanemad sinna, ise suundusin tagasi kohta, kust päeva alustasin. Võtsin päikese vastu oreli juures muulil ning saatsin õhtusse Kuldvärava silla taustal.

  

13th August I began our second day in San Francisco with a nice walk to see the Palace of Fine Arts and the Wave organ, located about 1.8miles from Town House Motel. I reached the orel just before sunrise, so wonderful.


The Palace of Fine Arts was built in 1915. and rebuilt in 1965. People go to see the building for its lovely surroundings, but also to see the concerts and exhibitions and it is a picturesque place to hold a wedding.

The Palace was built around an artificial lagoon, where some turtles were swimming among swans. Greek inspired statues are climbing on top of the roof, the first time I have seen statues do that. People were already working out before sunrise.


The Wave Organ is a wave-activated acoustic sculpture as the name allowes to conclude. It is located at the end of a jetty. Walking there you have no idea something like that could be there. The sound is created by the impact of waves against the 25 organ pipes located at various elevations within the site. The sound is best heard during high tide. Tide times.

The Palace of Fine Arts

It was low tide when I got there in the morning and when I took my parents there after having breakfast. If you are in the area, it`s an interesting`ish place to visit, but probably not worth the effort to drive there just to see the orel. Nice places to sit, Roman style and views to the bay.


There is a free car park next to the jetty, which is nice. You cannot play volleyball on certain times, a sign says so. First, we took a walk to the Palace of Fine Arts and then headed to see the orel.

Next, we drove over the iconic symbol of San Francisco, Golden Gate bridge, that you can admire from seveal locations all over the city. The Golden Gate bridge is probaly shown in every film located in San Francisco. It is one of the most famous and most photographed bridges in the world. At the time it was opened in 1937 it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, connecting San Francisco bay and the Pacific Ocean.

First, we crossed the bridge and headed to the shore on the left. Naturally I had searched the parking spaces at home, so we started with the farthest one, by Hawk hill. Of course I couldn`t resist taking the few steps to climb it.


We took several photo stops to enjoy the wonderful weather and the views of the city.

Being there, I took the most of our time. I walked under the bridge to the other side, to get yet another viewpoint.

Driving back over the bridge took much more time than crossing it the first time. Veterans Boulevard took us to Richmond District where we went to a couple of shops and had lunch.

Dining at a Japanese Jin Pot was an experience on its own. We got to chose starters, two broths (we chose one spicy and one milder one), a protein (we all chose chicken) and side dishes (mushrooms, cabbage, etc). There was a cooking stove in the middle of our table. First, the waiter brought us a big bowl separated by a diver and it had two broths. We got small bowls and spoons. Ok, so we tried the broth. Then we received the raw vegetables and mushrooms. OK. Then we got the thinly sliced chicken breast. Raw. OK? We were quite puzzled. Fortunately the waiter understood we were unexperienced so she instructed we would have to boil everything. So. I have never dined out having to cook for myself and paid for that😁

Geary Boulevard led us to Fillmore District and a Safeway car park. A short walk away another iconic symbol of San Francisco, Painted Ladies.

In American architecture, the painted ladies are Victorian and Edwardian houses repainted, starting in the 1960s, in three or more colours. The entire area was filled with gorgeous buildings. I can only imagine how people living there would regret choosing those houses to be their homes. People would stand or sit, have a picnic and just look at the houses. Well, we did just the same. It is stressful if hords of tourists stand in front of your house looking at it. The houses reminded me of Charmed😊


Well, we also visited Safeway, another huge (grocery)store. And there is a Goodwill located close by. Books😊

Then we drove back to our motel, parked our car and walked to Fisherman`s Warf. The previous day I got rid of two cable car tickets so I decided to try with the rest. This time the security guard was in front of the ticket books helping to sell someone`s tickets, so I assume it wasn`t forbidden. I took my four tickets and said we had walked back the previous day. All in all, we only lost 1$, but got rid of all of them.

We went (window)shopping and had dinner at Cioppino`s. I understand location costs extra. The most expensive dinner from our American trip. I had a Cobb salad, mum had a tiny crab coctail and father had some kind of meat. Drinks and tip, obviously.


We walked back to the motel, I left my parents there and headed back to the place where I had started the day. I greeted the sun by the orel and watched it set behind the Golden Gate bridge.
